It suits you if…
- You want to run a scheme that gives grants to independent news media.
- Your organisation is a legal entity with its registered office in an eligible country.
- You can work alone or build a consortium with partners from eligible countries.
- Your association, company, foundation, university or public body can carry out activities in several EU countries.
- You can cover the part of the budget that the grant does not pay.
It is not for you if…
- You are a private individual: natural persons are not among the eligible applicants.
- You only want to fund your own newsroom: the funding scheme for third parties is compulsory.
- You are an EU body: EU bodies cannot be part of the consortium.
- You are under an EU exclusion decision or EU restrictive measures.
How much you can get
The call pays up to €2,500,000 per grant, at a rate of 90% of the costs it accepts. You pay the rest. The call does not state a minimum grant or a required own share, so ask the help desk before you build the budget. The grant is paid by advance and may not produce a profit. The call is subject to the final adoption of the EU budget and may be changed or cancelled.
- If you spend €1,500,000, you receive €1,350,000 and pay €150,000 yourself.
- If you spend €3,000,000, you receive €2,500,000 and pay €500,000 yourself.

Mistakes that cost you the money
- Submitting without registering in the Participant Register. Consequence: You cannot submit the application.
- Leaving out the third-party funding scheme or giving it too small a share of the grant. Consequence: The application does not meet the conditions of the call.
- Missing the signed Declaration on Standards and Independence from one partner. Consequence: The application may be rejected.
- Planning a funding scheme with a short open window for third-party applicants. Consequence: The scheme breaks the call rules on open calls and published results.
- Counting a profit in the budget. Consequence: The call states that grants may not produce a profit.
- Putting a consultant's fee for writing the application in the budget. Consequence: The cost is not accepted.
