Immersive theatre

The project brought theatre into a large geodesic dome, turning immersive projection into a living part of the stage. Theatre director and actor Giuseppe Brancato guided the performers, pace and stage presence, while 360-degree images, lighting and sound expanded the space around the audience.

The creative challenge

Projecting content onto a curved surface was not enough. Every element needed a dramatic purpose: the performer’s gesture, image timing, lighting, audio and the relationship with an audience surrounded by the dome. The goal was to create an authentic immersive performance, not a technology demonstration.

Theatre, immersive cinema and artificial intelligence

The original dramaturgy alternated acted scenes, immersive film sequences and musical moments. The relationship between people and an intelligent system running out of control became a contemporary story about vulnerability, freedom and human connection, moving from comedy to tension without breaking its dialogue with the audience.

An experience without a frame

Inside the dome there is no rectangular screen. Landscapes, architecture and figures move through the scene and change scale above the audience. Viewers do not simply watch the performance; they share the actors’ visual environment.

A complete theatrical production

The work combined artistic direction, rehearsals, fulldome visual adaptation, technical direction and live-show management. Each step was tested in the actual space, where perspective, light intensity and movement behave differently from a conventional stage.

The show intertwined live acts and audiovisual chapters. This alternation allowed the imagery to carry the story elsewhere and the performers to bring it back into the present, leading to direct audience participation in the finale.

A 14-metre geodesic dome

The structure was assembled and prepared on site, even in difficult weather. Once the outer shell was in place, the crew installed the inner screen, floor, projection equipment and control stations. The result was a temporary yet complete theatre for audience, performers and technology.

The audience inside the performance

The audience response showed the format’s strength: attention moving in every direction, shared reactions and unusual proximity between viewers and performers. Immersive projection did not replace theatre; it extended its emotional and visual space, turning spectators into active participants.

The wonder experienced by the audience came from very concrete work: assembly, rehearsals, cabling, direction and daily care for the crew.
